In the Comporta region, a seductive and happy refuge
Inspired by the region’s ancient and charismatic thatched huts, Andringa Studio’s project emphasises the values of tradition, reinterprets the architecture of this coastal area and adds elements of modernity.

Located in an area known for its biodiversity, made up of hectares of rice paddies, pine forests and woods as far as the eye can see, in addition to kilometres and kilometres of sandy beaches, Comporta has for some time been a popular destination for days out, especially for those who want privacy and constant contact with nature. And it is in this region that the property presented here is located.
The original house was in a state of disrepair and had to be demolished. A renovated property was born, designed around a fig tree and now spread over four volumes: the main house, the secondary house, the laundry room and the gym, next to the swimming pool.
Rita Andringa’s studio was invited to carry out the work, always bearing in mind the aim of creating a residence ready to receive guests who desire well-being and privacy. It was also the owners’ intention that the project should rigorously respect the local architecture, an identity of this part of the Alentejo coast, without forgetting, however, the need to respond to the demands of everyday life, typical of the 21st century.
Along these lines, masonry, wood, thatch or cane, typical elements of the region’s buildings – the traditional huts – were combined here with other more contemporary materials that added comfort and modernity, as is the case, for example, with some microcement floors.
